Bride of Frankenstein (2009) (2010)

Artwork description:
Two paintings and two etchings of Frankenstein's Monster and the Bride of Frankenstein as nude Black people with jet black skin. In the paintings, backdropped by dark, cool-colored interiors, Frankenstein's Monster stalks forward, hunched, one house slipper on and the other on the floor. The Bride stands with her hands on her hips, wearing hoop earrings and her hair in a large bun. In the etchings, they stand before smoky black backgrounds, the Bride with an afro.

lyrics

[Spoken]
The road goes
The night lightless, the wind blows

Who’s in the black house on the hill
Who knows

The door’s ajar
The grass overgrows

Crows huddle
Broken shutters clack
Black cats pose

The moon behind the dark clouds
The black sky glows

We go
To the black house
On
The hill

Broken shutters clack
Black cats pose

We enter
The black house
On
The hill

Inside stand figures,
Through the dark, they approach

[Chorus, sung]
Ee ah ee—
Night falls and we arrive
In jetness is when we come alive
Come forth, don’t be surprised
When jetness is what frees you inside

The wind, it blows
Here come the ghosts
Their song, it goes
Ee ah ee—

Caw the crows
Black cats pose
The wind, it blows
Ee ah ee—

My darling, black like the sky
In jetness we dodge the harshest light
The gaze of the cruelest might
The flashlight that shines on us in fright

The wind, it blows
Here come the ghosts
Their song, it goes
Ee ah ee—

Caw the crows
Black cats pose
The wind, it blows
Ee ah ee—

[Chorus]
Night falls and we arrive
In jetness is when we come alive
Come forth, don’t be surprised
When jetness is what frees you inside

My darling, black like the sky
In jetness we dodge the harshest light
The gaze of the cruelest might
The flashlight that shines on us in fright—
